Automatic Backwash Particle Filter — Sediment & Rust Protection

How an Automatic Backwash Sediment Filter Works
The Particle Filter is the first line of defence in any whole-house water treatment system. Municipal water contains sand, rust particles, pipe shavings, and sediment that cause premature wear in valves, boilers, and appliances — and reduce the effectiveness of downstream fine filtration. The AQMOS Particle Filter stops all of this before it reaches your home's plumbing.
Sediment Capture at 90 µm
The stainless steel mesh filter captures all particles larger than 90 µm — sand, rust flakes, pipe debris, mineral deposits — as water enters the housing. The mesh is reusable and never needs replacement.
Integrated Pressure Regulation
An adjustable pressure reducer (soundproofed) and pressure gauge are built directly into the unit. High municipal water pressure (which causes pipe wear and appliance damage) is reduced and stabilised automatically. The rotatable connectors allow horizontal or vertical installation.
Backwash Self-Cleaning in 5–10 Seconds
Unlike cartridge filters that require replacement, the Particle Filter uses a backwash system: simply turn the backwash valve briefly and trapped particles are flushed out in seconds. This takes less time than boiling a kettle and needs to be done only every two months. No filter media to buy, no cartridges to dispose of.
Lead-Free Construction
The housing uses no brass or lead-containing components. All water-contact materials are certified lead-free — a critical distinction, as many competing particle filters use brass fittings that can leach low levels of lead into water over time.
Why Every Home Needs a Sediment Pre-filter
Older Properties
Homes with iron or copper pipes continuously shed microscopic rust and metal particles into the water supply. Even newer PEX pipes release fine debris during the first years of use. A particle filter is essential protection.
Rural & Well Water
Well water and some rural supply systems carry significantly higher sediment loads than municipal water. Without pre-filtration, sand and debris can damage pumps, valves, and fine-filtration cartridges within weeks.
Before Fine Filtration
Any fine filter — including the Mam Nature Fine Filter — performs significantly better with a particle pre-filter installed upstream. Sediment clogs fine filter cartridges, reducing their lifespan from 150 m³ to potentially a fraction of that.
High-Pressure Areas
Many municipal supplies deliver water at 6–8 bar — well above the 3–4 bar optimal for home plumbing. The integrated pressure reducer reduces this to safe levels, protecting all downstream appliances.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a particle filter and a fine filter?
A particle filter (sediment filter) removes visible and near-visible solid particles — sand, rust, pipe debris — at 90 µm or larger. A fine filter uses activated carbon and adsorption media to remove dissolved chemical contaminants like PFAS, heavy metals, chlorine, and pesticides at molecular level. Both are needed for complete water treatment: the particle filter protects the fine filter and extends its lifespan.
How often does the particle filter need cleaning?
The backwash procedure takes 5–10 seconds and should be performed approximately every two months — or whenever you notice reduced water pressure. There is no filter media to replace, no cartridge to buy. The stainless steel mesh lasts indefinitely.
Is the particle filter lead-free?
Yes. All water-contact materials in the AQMOS Particle Filter are certified lead-free. This is an important distinction: many standard particle filters use brass fittings, which can contain up to 8% lead and may leach trace amounts into water over time. The Mam Nature Particle Filter uses no brass components.
Does the particle filter remove chlorine or heavy metals?
No — the particle filter is designed for physical sediment removal only. For chemical contaminants like PFAS, chlorine, heavy metals, and microplastics, the Fine Filter with Aqualen™ cartridge is required. The two filters are designed to work in sequence.
