How Our PFAS & Heavy Metal Water Filter Works
Conventional activated carbon filters remove contaminants broadly — including the beneficial minerals your body needs. Reverse osmosis systems go even further, stripping water of everything and producing acidic, demineralised water. The Mam Nature Fine Filter uses a completely different approach: selective protein-fiber adsorption technology, patented and certified by ETH Zurich.
Stage 1 — Physical Membrane Pre-filtration (20 µm & 5 µm)
Water first passes through dual physical membranes at 20 µm and 5 µm. These remove visible and near-visible particles — sediment, rust, microplastics larger than 5 µm — protecting the downstream filtration stages and extending cartridge life.
Stage 2 — Activated Carbon Adsorption
Activated carbon removes chlorine, chloroform, organic compounds, taste and odour molecules, and a wide spectrum of pesticides and petrochemicals through adsorption — contaminants bind to the carbon surface and are permanently removed from the water stream.
Stage 3 — Aqualen™ Protein-Fiber Adsorption (PFAS & Heavy Metals)
This is the core innovation certified by ETH Zurich. The Aqualen™ fibers use molecular-level protein adsorption to selectively capture PFAS (forever chemicals), heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic), drug residues, radioactive substances, and phenols at retention rates of 95–99.9% — while the mineral ions (calcium, magnesium, potassium) pass through unchanged.
Stage 4 — Ionised Silver Sterility Layer
A silver ion layer within the cartridge prevents bacterial growth inside the filter medium — ensuring the cartridge remains sterile between uses. Critically, silver does not leach into the drinking water at any measurable level.
ETH Zurich Certified — What the Science Shows
The Mam Nature Fine Filter cartridge has been independently tested and certified by ETH Zurich — consistently ranked among the world's top 10 universities. The official Filtration Performance Report documents retention rates across all contaminant categories.
Certifications held: ETH Zurich Filtration Performance Certificate · ISO 13485 Quality Management · Swiss Safety Center Pressure Test Certificate (16 bar) · All components manufactured in 316L medical-grade stainless steel with no lead-containing brass parts.

What are PFAS and why should I filter them from my drinking water?
PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) are synthetic "forever chemicals" found in tap water across Europe and Switzerland. They accumulate in the human body and have been linked to cancer, thyroid disruption, immune suppression, and reproductive harm. The EU has introduced strict new limits (0.1 µg/L total PFAS), but many municipal water systems still exceed these. Our Fine Filter removes PFAS at ≥99% retention, certified by ETH Zurich.
Does the filter remove beneficial minerals like calcium and magnesium?
No — this is the core advantage of our Aqualen™ protein-fiber technology. Unlike reverse osmosis, which strips everything including minerals, our selective adsorption targets harmful contaminants while allowing beneficial mineral ions (calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium) to pass through unchanged. Your water remains naturally mineralised.
How often does the cartridge need to be replaced?
The Swiss Water Cartridge is replaced once per year (or after 150 m³ of water, whichever comes first). Replacement takes approximately 10 minutes and requires no tools — simply unscrew the housing, swap the cartridge, and close. It is the only maintenance the entire Fine Filter unit ever requires.
Is this a whole house water filter for drinking water only?
The Fine Filter is a whole-house (point-of-entry) system, installed on your main water supply line. This means every tap in your home — kitchen, bathrooms, garden — receives filtered water. It is not limited to drinking water: cooking, showering, and bathing all benefit from contaminant-free water.
How is this different from a Brita or jug filter?
Jug filters are countertop devices that filter only cold drinking water at a low flow rate, typically replacing carbon every 4 weeks. The Mam Nature Fine Filter treats all water entering your home, achieves 95–99.9% removal of PFAS and heavy metals (vs. partial removal by carbon jugs), lasts 150 m³ per cartridge, and is certified by ETH Zurich — a standard no consumer jug filter meets.
